Lake District
England
England's largest national park and its most concentrated hill country: the only English ground above 3,000 feet, sixteen major lakes, and valleys radiating from a central knot of fells. Scafell Pike (978 m) is the national high point, and both Wainwright's 214 fells and Birkett's 541 tops sit entirely within the boundary. Nowhere in Britain packs more collecting into less area.
